Donald James O’Neill

South Bend – Services for Donald James O’Neill, 72, of St. Paul’s Retirement Community, who died at 11:12 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at the Hickey Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society.

 

Mr. O’Neill retired from the Bendix Corp., as an accountant after 40 years of service. He was born Sept. 12, 1915 in Kalamazoo, and lived in South Bend most of his life, having come from Dowagiac.

 

On Sept. 11, 1948, in South Bend, he married Rosina Moora. She died Feb. 14, 1975. He is survived by a daughter Mary Gay Kay of Libertyville, Ill.; a son Brian F. of Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Peg Policinski and Ruth Smanda, both of South Bend, and Dorothy Bodden of Portgage, Wis.; and two brothers, Charles of Mendota, Ill., and Richard of Dillsberg, Pa.

 

Mr. O’Neill was a member of the church Knights of Columbus Council 5453., Holy Name Society of the church and the Bendix Management Club. He was a graduate of the former Central High School and the University of Notre Dame. He was a veteran of World War II.
