James J. O’Neill

South Bend – James J. O’Neill, 77, of 1122 N. Notre Dame Ave., died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in his home  after a one-year illness. He was a retired clothing salesman. He was born April 16, 1890 in Kalamazoo and had lived here for 42 years. His first wife Emma died in 1932.

 

His widow, Margaret, who he married in 1937 survives, along with three sons, Donald J. of South Bend, Charles J. of Mendota, Ill. And Richard J. of Camp Hill, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. Louis Smanda Jr. and Mrs. Eugene T. Policinski, both of South Bend, and Mrs. William Bodden of Portgage, Wis.; and 16 grandchildren.

 

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home. He was a member of Santa Maria Council 553, Knights of Columbus

Funeral services for James J. O’Neill, 77, of 1122 N. Notre Dame Ave., who died Saturday, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Donald Guertin, CSC, pastor will officiate and burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

 

The parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the Hickey Funeral Home and members of the Father Nieuwland General Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Mr. O’Neill was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
