Sister M. Edna Orzechowska

Sister M. Edna Orzechowska, 80, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital after a short illness. Born June 6, 1892 in South Bend, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s as Helen Orzechowska on Feb. 6, 1910, being received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1910 and making her profession on Aug. 15, 1912. Surviving are a brother, of South Bend, and a sister, Mrs. Marion Gohn of Mishawaka.

 

She spent her community life from 1912 to 1968 in the St. Mary’s College Art Department. She received her B. A. degree from St. Mary’s College, and studied under many masters. She exhibited her works and received numerous awards. In 1968 she was named Associate Professor Emeritus of St. Mary’s College, and resided in St. Mary’s Convent from that time.

 

Friends may call Thursday and Friday in St. Mary’s Convent Parlors. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s.
