Virginia Phyllis Ozdyck

Virginia P. Ozdyck, 85, of Canterbury Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness at 5:38 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2002, in her home. She was born on May 5, 1917, to the late Frank and Hattie (Demski) Nowaczewski in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong resident. Three brothers, Richard, Norbert and Eugene Nowaczewski, also preceded her in death.

 

Virginia was married to Carl Vincent Alasko (deceased), and then on July 29, 1952, to Jerome Ozdyck, who died on November 24, 1994. Virginia is survived by a daughter, Carol Sue (Walter Jr. "Terry") Bernard of Cincinnati, OH; two sons, Richard-Raymond Alasko of Chicago, Ill., Christopher (Debbie) Ozdyck of South Bend; five grandchildren, Patrick, David and Christopher Bernard, and Kenneth and Christopher Whalen; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred (Joy) Nowaczewski of South Bend, Frank (Dolores) Newman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Ervin (Theresa) Nowaczewski of South Bend.

 

Mrs. Ozdyck was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, St. Hedwig Golden Cluster, St. John Retiree's, St. Casimir's Retiree Club, St. Stanislaus Kostka Retiree's Club, and St. Stanislaus Retiree's Club of South Bend. She is well-remembered as a staff member of the Circle of Mercy Day Nursery in South Bend.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2002, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with Rev. James Flanigan, C.S.C., as presider, joined by Rev. Gregory Green, C.S.C., both of the University of Notre Dame. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be led by Rev. Lourdino Fernandes, pastor of St. John the Baptist Church at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437; or to the Villa Therese Clinic, 219 Cathedral Place, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
