SOUTH BEND - Kim E. Padgett, 73, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008, in his home surrounded by close friends and family. His loving wife, Jan, son, Barry (Leonie), a sister, Judy (Estil) Stephenson, and mother, Mabel Copeland, were all at his side to support and comfort him. He was preceded in death by his father, Elkin. Survivors also include his nieces, Kimberly (Alan) Zoltowski and Karla (Dan) Jackson; a nephew, Kerry Kreft; stepdaughter, Pamela (Mathew) Hazinski; stepson, Steve (LeeAnn) Stebbins; and seven loving and devoted grandchildren, Dane, Harper, Mark, Janelle, Katie, Courtney and Brittney. Kim was born in Livingston, TN, and upon graduation from Hazel Park High School, he joined the United States Army where he served from 1954 to 1957. He was part of the Atomic Testing program in addition to serving overseas. After returning from the service Kim attended Michigan State University. He lived and worked in the Elkhart, Mishawaka and South Bend area for more than 40 years.

 

The family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. in South Side Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Friends are encouraged to call one hour prior at 1 p.m. The Saint Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, is assisting the family with their arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
