Joseph A. Pajakowski

May 30, 1920 - Sept. 3, 2002

Joseph Anthony Pajakowski, son of Valentine Pajakowski and Maryanna (Graf) Pajakowski, was born on May 30, 1920, and was a lifelong resident of South Bend. Mr. Pajakowski was a graduate of Washington High School and a member of their championship football team. He was a vocalist with the Joe LaMar Band in the late 1930s. He enlisted in the 8th Air Force and was stationed in England during W.W. II. Mr. Pajakowski played football for Michigan State University, and in 1946 married Dorothy E. Richardson of South Bend. Mr. Pajakowski was a South Bend Firefighter for 33 years. He is survived by two daughters, Marcia (John) Mariani of Juno Beach, FL, and Mary Beth (Terry) Hall of Portage, MI. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Andrew Mariani, Sara Mariani, Patrick Mariani, Olivia Hall, Evan Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Mariani and Joseph Anthony Mariani. He is also survived by three sisters, Eugenia Nowicki, Evelyn Derda and Gertrude (Chester) Botka. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eligous Pajakowski, Clement Pajakowski, John Pajakowski and Edwin Pajakowski. Friends may share with the family on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home, located at 3545 N. Bendix Drive, with a Rosary being said at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church where Mr. Pajakowski was a parishioner for over 50 years. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church.
