Catherine A. Agostino Palatin, 85, of Dugdale Drive, South Bend, Ind., formerly of South Bend Avenue, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center of South Bend.

 

Catherine was born on Sept. 30, 1916, in South Bend, to Louis and Mary (Tirotta) Rodino.

 

She married Dominic J. Agostino on June 18, 1938. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1947. She then married on July 17, 1976, to Matthew L. Palatin, who preceded her in death on July 2, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, James R. Agostino in 1998; a brother, Frank Rodino in 1999; a sister, Julia Kambol; and by her parents.

 

She retired from the University of Notre Dame in 1979 after 23 years working in the housekeeping department.

 

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Barbara Palatin and Patricia Palatin, both of South Bend, and Margaret Palatin of Schaumberg, Ill.; a son, Robert D. and (Margaret) Agostino of Niles,, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Agostino of Osceola, Ind.; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; five sisters, Theresa (Frank) Manijak, Josephine Brekrus, Elizabeth "Betty" (John) Marroni, Rose Rodino and Lena (Edward) Perry, all of South Bend; and by two brothers, Rocco Rodino of Kokomo, Ind., and Louis Rodino Sr. of Lakeville, Ind.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 24, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend. Catherine was a lifetime member of the church.

 

Friends called from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the McGann Funeral Home, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend. A wake service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

 

Rev. Charles Lavely, C.S.C., associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will celebrate the Mass.

 

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
