Sam J. Papandria

September 7, 1914 – May 26, 1996

SOUTH BEND – Sam J. Papandria, 81, of 1104 S. 23^rd St., died at 9:58pm Sunday in St Joseph’s Medical Center.  Mr. Papandria retired from South Bend Water Works and was the former manager of Lincoln Hotel Bar.

He was born September 7, 1914, in South Bend.  On June 19, 1937, in South Bend, he married Ann Marie Vargo.  She died January 21, 1972.  He is survived by a daughter, Vicki Pauwels of Mishawaka; three grandchildren; two great grandsons; three sisters, Josephine Bamber of South Bend, Anne Rhoads of Mount Clemens MI and Jennie Papandria of New York City; and four brothers, Peter, Anthony, Rocco and George, all of South Bend.  He was a volunteer for the Democratic Party and a member of Elks Lodge 235 and Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10am Thursday in the church.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Wednesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church or American Kidney Foundation.
