July 23, 1914 - April 8, 2001

Howard E. Pare, 86, of Marquette Avenue, passed away on Sunday, April 8, in his residence.

He was born on July 23, 1914, in Kankakee, Ill., to Victor and Catherine (Davis) Pare. On Sept. 8, 1943, he married Cecelia DeFrew, who preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers, and by a daughter, Mary Jane Swank on Feb. 19, 2001.

Mr. Pare retired in 1977 as service manager with Multi-Graph Address-O-Graph after over 20 years of service. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

On Aug. 11, 1990, he married Susanne Turnock Murchison, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Karen (Klaus) Schagat of Ghent, W.Va., Amy Murchison-Mitchell and Stacey (Robert) West, both of South Bend, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Rosemary (John) Borkowski, Bob (Melissa) Swank, Sue Ellen (James) Bowers, Bill Swank, Nicole (Tom) Jones, Klaus Schagat II, Trista Schagat, Kyle Pennell, Kymberlee Pennell West and Kevin West; and by four great-grandchildren, Richard Borkowski, Joseph Borkowski, Glenn Swank and Elana Jones.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. today, April 11, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen J. Sedlock, C.S.C., officiating.
