NEW CARLISLE - Eliza Esther Parmley, 100 and 6 months old, residing in New Carlisle passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, where she has lived for the past 13 years. Eliza Esther was born on April 17, 1908, on Good Friday in St. Joseph County to the late James and Iva (Long) Ullery. Her father was planting early potatoes and her grandma delivered her in the log cabin she called home. Eliza lived the past 35 years in New Carlisle and lived most of her life in our local area except for a few years when she lived in Kankakee, IL On October 19, 1926, in South Bend, Eliza Esther married Lorin A. Parmley who preceded her in death on May 19, 1969. Two daughters have also preceded her in death, Anna Mae Parmley on August 10, 1991 and Lorraine E. Herbruck on January 7, 1997. One brother, Russell Ullery passed away on October 16, 1942, and two grandchildren also preceded her in death. Mrs. Parmley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence A. and Rose Ann Parmley of New Carlisle; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane (Milford) Billhimer of South Bend; and one brother, Donald Ullery of South Bend. Many nieces and nephews also survive, including her niece Marge Wegenka. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Dr. Irwin Young will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 19 at the funeral home.
