South Bend Tribune 12/28/2007
NORTH LIBERTY - Betty June Grey Patterson, 78, passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, in North Liberty, formerly of South Bend, where she had lived most of her life. Betty was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Deep Water, West Virginia, to the late Leonard and Mae Manley. Betty June moved from West Virginia to South Bend where she spent the rest of her life after being married.

On Feb. 20, 1954, she married Jack A. Grey Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1976. On May 27, 1978, she married Carl E. Patterson Sr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1994. She is survived by a son, Jack A. (Linda Winkler) Grey of Richmond, Virginia; five stepchildren, Carl E. (Anita) Patterson Jr. and Roger W. (Brenda Seach) Patterson, both of North Liberty, and Jacqueline (Dennis) Homman, Jeffrey Patterson and Terry Patterson, all of South Bend; a brother, Chuck (Mary Jane) Manley of Hurricane, West Virginia; and a sister, Dorcas Slade of Hammond, Illinois. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Marenda (Michael) Ohara of New Carlisle, Vendetta Patterson, Patric Patterson and Andrew Patterson, all of North Liberty, Diane Pierce, Dennis (Stephanie) Homman Jr., Sam (Michelle) Patterson, Angela Patterson and Aaron Patterson, all of South Bend, and Daisy Winkler of Muncie, Indiana; and six great-grandchildren.

Betty was a great lady who had brought this family together by marrying Carl E. Patterson Sr. in 1978. She loved to fish, crochet, and was a great cook. She enjoyed spending time at the lake cottage on Big Smith and Donnell lakes. We all have fond memories of those times which we will treasure. June retired from Wells Electronics in 1992 after 28 years. June or "Grannie," as we all called her, will be greatly missed by her family and all whose lives she touched. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. R. Ansari and the Center for Hospice.

There will be no visitation. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., is handling arrangements. In memory of Betty June Patterson, contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
