Robert Armstrong Patterson Sr.

April 8, 1921 - Feb. 23, 2001

South Bend, IN — Mr. Robert Armstrong Patterson Sr., 79, of Greenview Street, passed away following a brief illness at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, in Regency Place. Bob was born on April 8, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., and moved to South Bend 59 years ago.

 

On Nov. 4, 1944, he married Genevieve Ann Curran, who survives of South Bend. In 1986 he retired from the Bendix Aero Space Division where he worked for 38 years as a steamfitter. Survivors include a daughter, Laura (John) Dorbin of Mishawaka, Ind.; three sons, Robert A. Jr. (Sandra) of Aiken, S.C., Patrick M. (Mary) and Dennis J., both of South Bend; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marge Hentz. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann Louise.

 

A celebration of the Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Highland Mausoleum. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, near Ironwood. There will be a combined Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council #553 and the Fr. J.A. Nieuwland Assembly of the 4th Degree KofC #0242.

 

He was a member of both groups as well as St John's where he served as an usher. Mr. Patterson was a World War II Army veteran, and was a member of American Legion Post #284. Donations may be made in Bob's memory to the American Cancer Society.
