Dayton W. Peck

SOUTH BEND - Dayton W. Peck, 88, of South Bend passed away following a brief illness on Monday, November 19, 2007, at Hospice House surrounded by his family who loved him so much. He was employed by Swift & Co. for over 20 years. He owned and operated the D & E. Provision Company, South Bend. He continued to work in the meat industry with Redi-Froz, a Division of Scott Lad Foods and with Meijer's Butcher Department on Grape Road. Most recently, he was a Security Guard at Bayer and the County City Building, as well as starting an online travel agency with his wife. Mr. Peck was born on July 29, 1919, in McGregor, Iowa to Charles and Agnes (Hultgren) Peck.

 

On June 22, 1946, in McGregor, Iowa he married Josephine (Kluss) Peck, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 61 years, Josephine, he is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Peck) Chamberlin and Nancy (Peck) Fydell; one son, Thomas W. Peck; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; great-grand-kitty, "Stanley"; and his dog, "Little Bit".

 

Mr. Peck served in World War II as a Corporal in the United States Army. He will be remembered for his love of people, the smile on his face and his sense of humor. Although our hearts are aching and we will mourn the loss of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, we rejoice knowing he rests in Jesus' arms.

 

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Dayton Peck may be made to the family.
