SOUTH BEND - Lenore Ellen (Oklak) Peer, 62, of Union, OH, passed from this earth on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. She leaves behind a legacy of commitment to her Lord, her family, her church and others. Leonore was born February 20, 1947, in South Bend, IN, to Joseph and Goldie (Leiter) Oklak. She was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Todd Anthony Peer. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Herbert Peer; her father; three brothers, Steve, Mark and Dennis Oklak; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristen (Peer) and Shawn McDowell; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Shannon (Gaff) Peer; eight grandchildren, Connor, Lauren and Jillian McDowell and Caleb, Josiah, Rachel, Jada and Sarah Peer. Lenore moved to the Dayton area in 1977. After volunteering at the Dayton Ronald McDonald House, she became an administrative assistant there. More recently, she served as a secretary for the Basore Road Grace Brethren Church. Lenore was active in her church, having served as youth Bible quiz coach for over 14 years and as a member of the deacon board for several years. She was also active for several years with the Dayton Area Candlelighters, a support group for parents of children with cancer. Lenore will be remembered by family and friends as a faithful woman who put others ahead of herself, and as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2009 in the Basore Road Grace Brethren Church (5675 Basore Road) with Pastor Skip White officiating. Interment will follow the service at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood, OH). If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Basore Road Grace Brethren Church, Charter Oak Church in Churubusco, IN (where her son is pastor), or to the Todd Peer Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Basore Road Grace Brethren Church.
