Services for Rev. Bernard A. Pegarski CSC, 84, died Saturday in St. Joseph Medical Center, will be at 3:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church, University of Notre Dame. Burial will be in Community Cemetery at Notre Dame. Friends may call after 3:30 today at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Rev. Pegarski was a contributing writer to Ava Maria Press and the Oratory, a magazine published by St. Joseph Shrine, Montreal. He also had a book called “The Olive Branch published in 1943. Rev. Pegarski was born Feb. 4, 1905 in Pottsville Pa. He is survived by a sister, Theresa Keyso in Pottsville.

 

He entered the Holy Cross Seminary on Sept. 2, 1924, and made his first profession of vows on July 2, 1929. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 24, 1937. His assignments included St. Stanislaus Parish from  1937 to 1939; Mission Band from 1939 to 1959; Rancho Antonio, Chatsworth, Calif., from 1959 to 1962; chaplain at Columba Hall, Notre Dame, from 1962 to 1963; St. Stanislaus Parish from 1953 to 1965; and Holy Cross House, Notre Dame from 1965 to 1967. While a member of the mission Band, he conducted missions and retreats for priests and churches across the United States. He served as assistant pastor at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church from 1978 until retiring in 1985.
