James G. Pellow, Sr.

April 9, 1922 - July 27, 1997

James G. Pellow, Sr., 75, residing at 55365 Grandview Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, in Mercy Hospital, Muskegon, Mich. Mr. Pellow worked as a plumber and pipe fitter with Local Union 172. He was born on April 9, 1922, in South Bend, to the late James and Maude (Robinson) Pellow, and had been a lifelong area resident.

 

On July 3, 1950, in Plymouth, Ind., he married Geraldine L. Kurzhal, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Lou Ann Wood (longtime companion, Jim Bates); six sons, Walter (Loretta) Pellow, Lamont (Jane) Pellow, Herbert (Kathleen) Pellow, Rex Pellow and Gary (Anita) Nellans, all of South Bend, and James (Kathy) Pellow, Jr., of Marble Falls, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Bea Samuels of Mishawaka, Ind., and Rosie LaRoco of California.

 

Mr. Pellow was a member of Local Union 172 Plumbers and Pipefitters, South Bend, and was a World War II Army veteran.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, with Rev. James Iliff, pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
