Lee Oren Peppers

Lee Oren Peppers, 69, of 54500 Longwood Drive, South Bend, Ind., died Saturday, September 1, 2001, in Saint Joseph Medical Center. Mr. Peppers was born to the late Emma (Chapman) and Rufus Peppers on September 1, 1932, in Osceola, Ark.

 

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; three children, Lee O. Peppers Jr., Joseph B. Peppers and Cheryl L. Peppers; and one grandson David L. Peppers. He has lived in South Bend for the last 50 years coming from Osceola, Ark. Lee was a member of the Masons.

 

On August 25, 1984 Lee married Doris (Fisk). She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Norma "Sissy" Stanage of Mishawaka and Lisa (Jackson Jr.) Hightshoe of Mishawaka; a son, David (Candace) Peppers of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Brenda (Mark) Pompey of Michigan; and a stepson, Jeff Miller of Elkhart; 20 grandchildren, Joseph (Sharon) Lippert, Lee (Kimberly) Lippert, Shannon (Barry) Newman, Lisa (Nathan) Mitchell, Phillip (Amanda) Phillips, Jackson (Whitney) Hightshoe III, Jillian Hightshoe, Alice Hightshoe, April (Jason) Sommer, Brandy Kramer, Tammy (Patrick) Amalemba, Christopher Peppers, Brenden Brothers, Brook Peppers, Tiffany Brugess, Nicole Dawson, Shayne Pompey, Samantha Pompey, Jeffrey Miller and Jennifer Miller; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jean of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kathryn of Tennessee, Dorothy of Michigan, Lorraine of Michigan and Erma of Michigan; and five brothers, Rufus Jr. of Tennessee, Richard of Indianapolis, Ind., Walt of South Bend, Doyle of South Bend and Larry of South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2001, in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson St., South Bend, with Pastor Phillip Thomas of Ardmore Wesleyan Church, South Bend, officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery South Bend. Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2001, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
