Gertrude I. Peregrin, 76, of LaPorte Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died on Sunday, Feb. 28, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was a retired executive secretary for Union Carbide, Chicago, Ill. Born on March 11, 1922, in Chicago, she had lived in South Bend since July 1998, coming from Naperville, Ill. On July 19, 1952, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Chicago, she married Joseph M. Peregrin, who preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa J. (John) Kovach of South Bend; three granddaughters, Emily, Marina and Irina Kovach, all at home; a sister, Loretta Balcerzak of Chicago; and by a brother, Al Lulinski of Chicago.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Naperville, Ill., where friends may call one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, Ill. Additional visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, South Bend, where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral home, officiated by Rev. William Sullivan, pastor of St. Monica's Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Monica's Catholic Church, 214 W. Mishawaka Avenue, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to the Mental Health Association of St. Joseph County, 211 W. Madison, South Bend, IN 46601.
