Betty Jean Peterson

SOUTH BEND - Betty Jean (Kaiser) Peterson, 57, of 60000 Myrtle Road, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Peterson retired from Bry-Fern Care Center, Berrien Center. She was born Aug. 21, 1936, in Buchanan, and lived in South Bend since 1987, coming from Niles.

 

On Aug. 21, 1955, in Niles, as Betty Jean Schutze, she married Donald R. Kaiser. He died Jan. 12, 1986.

 

On May 2, 1987, in South Bend, she married Harold J. Peterson. He survives, with two daughters, DeAnn R. Haygood of Niles and Donna L. Rider of Goshen; a son, Gene D. Kaiser of Niles; two stepdaughters, Diann Reamer and Roxanne Stone, both of South Bend; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Geri Smallwood of Niles and Shirley Applegate of Fort Myers, Fla.

 

She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, and Studebaker Driving Club. She was a former employee of the University of Notre Dame at the Joyce Athletic & Convocation Center, Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium and was a professional clown, ``Pinky'' and ``Mrs. Claus.''

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark's Catholic Church, Niles. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m.
