Sister M. Gertrude Aloise Peters CSC, 82, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 1:30 a.m. today in the convent. She was born Gretchen Mary Peters on Aug. 9, 1902 in Somonauk, Ill. and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Aug. 29, 1922 coming from Amarillo, Texas. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1923, and made her first profession of vows two years later. She taught at St. Joseph and Holy Cross schools in South Bend; and in schools in Anderson; Hammond; Elkhart in Indiana; Woodstock, Morris, Peoria, and Evergreen Park, all in Illinois. In 1969 she was assigned to parish work among the elderly in Peoria, where she served until 1980 when she retired to St. Mary’s Convent due to illness.

 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church at St. Mary’s College, with internment in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call anytime in the convent parlor where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. today in the chapel.
