Robert H. Petron

Robert H. Petron, 80, formerly of West Edison Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Ind.

Mr. Petron was born on Sept. 17, 1918, in Long Prairie, Minn., to Mary (Maschke) and Henry Petron, the oldest of their five children. He was preceded in death by his parents; three of his four brothers; and by his son, Kenneth E. Petron, who died on Nov. 4, 1992.

He worked in the air-conditioning field between 1946 and 1981, and from 1965 to 1981 was part owner of Delta T Company, a refrigeration and air-conditioning contracting firm.

On Oct. 20, 1943, in Browerville, Minn., he married Margaret Ostrowski, who survives.

He is also survived by four sons, Donald R. Petron of Sacramento, Calif., Frederick J. Petron of South Bend, Gerald J. Petron of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Edward A. Petron of Annville, Pa.; two granddaughters, Gloria Louise Petron of New York City and Margaret E. Petron of Austin, Texas; and by a brother, Richard Petron of Long Prairie, Minn.

Mr. Petron served in the armed forces prior to and during World War II - from Feb. 10, 1945 to Dec. 16, 1946. He served one year in the Pacific Theater and participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands.

He was a member of the Ushers Club of Holy Family Catholic Church, American Legion Post #50, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #172.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
