Sister M. Rosabel Phalen CSC, 85, died Thursday in St. Mary’s Convent, after a lengthy illness. She was born May 6, 1894 in Ottawa, Ill. as Ethel Margaret Phalen and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, coming from LaPorte. She was received as a novice  Dec. 10, 1911 and made her profession Dec. 10, 1913. She was assigned to teach in various elemertary schools, including St. Joseph School in South Bend from 1940 to 1949. She also taught in Plymouth, Elkhart, Logansport and Michigan City, as well as in Washington DC and New York City. She resided at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in South Bend from 1962 to 1966, before retiring to St. Mary’s Convent in 1966.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today in the convent parlors.
