Frank A. Piechowiak Sr.
March 21, 1916 - Sept. 18, 2000
Frank A. Piechowiak Sr., 84, of Valley View Nursing Home, Elkhart, Ind., formerly of Ardmore Trail, South Bend, Ind., died at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born on March 21, 1916, in Calumet, Mich., and lived in this area for the past 73 years. Mr. Piechowiak retired from the Department of Code Enforcement for the City of South Bend as an inspector.
On May 25, 1940, he married Letitia Hezler, who preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1982. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Veronica (Cheshowa) Piechowiak; a son, Frank Piechowiak Jr., who died in 1999 and his wife, Cheryl, who died in 1994; and by three sisters and five brothers.
On May 4, 1983, he married Frances J. Shula, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Joan Evans of South Bend; a son, James (Theresa) Piechowiak of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren, Lisa Piechowiak of Elkhart, Mark Piechowiak of Mishawaka, Ind., Denise (Paul) Bassett of Palatine, Ill., and Alexis Evans of South Bend.
Mr. Piechowiak was a member of the Ushers Club, the Holy Name Society and a Charter Member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. He was a Past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, Ave Maria Council #553, and a member of Father Nieuwland General Assembly 4th Degree. Mr. Piechowiak was inducted into the Indiana High School Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He was also the public address announcer for 45 years for School Field.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with entombment to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
