Richard C. Pilarski

Feb. 28, 1917 - Aug. 8, 1998

Richard C. Pilarski, 81, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11:17 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8th, in Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Pilarski was born on Feb. 28, 1917, in South Bend, to Casimir and Helen (Salata) Pilarski, and was a lifelong area resident.

He retired in 1970 from the style and design division at Uniroyal in Mishawaka, Ind., where he was employed in management. He then worked for J.C. Penney until 1979.

On May 19, 1945, he married Irene ''Levan'' Levandoski, who survives.

He is also survived by two children, Dolores Parent of South Bend and Carl (Agnes Nagy) Pilarski of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren, Brenda and Michael Parent, both of South Bend; a great-grandson, Avery Parent of South Bend; two sisters, Helen Zack and Loretta Borowski, both of South Bend; and by several nieces.

Mr. Pilarski was a charter member at St. Jude's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 14th Army Air Corps Bomber Wing in Burma and China. He was also a member of American Legion Pulaski Post 357 and Knights of Columbus Council 5521.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12th, in St. Jude's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Stoyle officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where members of American Legion Pulaski Post 357 will conduct military services.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by the members of St. Jude's parish and Knights of Columbus Council 5521.
