Howard Arthur Pingel

Howard Arthur Pingel, 81, of South Bend, Ind., died at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 29, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., to the late Laura (LaBoy) and Henry Pingel

 

On May 6, 1939, in South Bend he married Charlene Goss who preceded him in death on April 25, 1995. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Carter of Mishawaka, Ind.; a son, Terry Pingel of Lawrence, Mich.; six grandchildren, Matthew, Roy, Melody and Autumn Pingel and Scott and Nicholas Carter; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Clubb of Ohio and a brother, Jack Pingle of Mishawaka.

 

Mr. Pingel was a supervisor at Sibley Machine and Foundry Corporation. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of VFW Post 360, American Legion - Bendix Post, Disabled Vets., and was a life member of DAV Chapter #6.

 

Services for Mr. Pingel will be at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 30, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where VFW Post 360 will perform military rites.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
