Doris D. Plain, 92, of Ponader Drive, South Bend, Ind., died in her residence following an illness at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7. Mrs. Plain was born on Feb. 18, 1907 in Aurora, Ill., to James LeRoy and Zula (Miller) McWethy and has lived in South Bend since 1946, coming form Aurora.

 

On Feb. 3, 1931 in Michigan City, Ind., as Doris D. McWethy she married George B. Plain, MD, who survives. She is also survived by one daughter, Sally P. (James) Schlobohm of South Bend; a son, George L. (Marie) Plain, MD; ten grandchildren, David (Teresa) Plain, Caren (Peter) Davis, George (Andrea) Plain, MD, Alice Plain, LCDR George (Susan) Scheel, Donald (Karen) Scheel, Frederick "Ted" ( Jacqueline) Scheel, MD, Rev. Scott (Molly) Scheel, Dan (Karen) Schlobohm, and Sally Schlobohm; 14 great-grandchildren; and by two brothers, Capt. Robert McWethy, Ret. of Annapolis, Md., and Richard McWethy of Oswego, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, John McWethy.

 

Mrs. Plain was a charter member and past president of PEO Chapter BX, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, and Palisades Park Country Club in Palisades, Michigan. Mrs. Plain attended Sullins Junior College, Lake Forest College, and Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School in Chicago. She was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed her time swimming and canoeing at Palisades Park.

 

Memorial services for Mrs. Plain will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, in the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Morrow and Rev. Don Neely officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to and immediately following the service in the church. Cremation will take place in Michiana Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46601, Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637, or Redbud Community Retreat, Inc., c/o First Presbyterian Church. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, is handling arrangements.
