NORTH LIBERTY - David E. Platz, 85, of 300 E. Center St., died at 11:12 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. Mr. Platz retired in 1977 from the South Bend Street Department after 10 years. He was born Nov. 2, 1909, in North Liberty.

Surviving are five daughters, Evelyn Runyan of North Liberty, with whom he made his home, Patricia Mitchell and Joyce Eaglebarger, both of South Bend, and Ruth Ryall and Mary Ann Wilson, both of Osceola; four sons, David J. and Larry, both of Mishawaka, Robert of North Liberty, and John of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in North Liberty Church of Christ. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and after 7 p.m. Wednesday in A.M. Manuel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
