Jerome H. Pluta

Jerome H. Pluta, 74, of East Edison Road, South Bend, passed away after an illness on Sunday, December 13, in Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

 

He was born on April 6, 1924, in Niles MI, to Stella (Szynski) and George Pluta, and had lived in South Bend since 1933.  Mr. Pluta retired from the US Postal Service in 1990 after 31 years of service.

 

On September 7, 1957, he married Marguerite Van Wynsberghe, who survives.

 

He is also survived by two daughters, Corrine Kjeldsen of Noblesville IN and Celeste Blank of Temecula CA; three grandchildren, Katie and Kristin Kjeldsen, and Evan Blank; and by his brother, Frank Pluta of South Bend.

 

Mr. Pluta was a member of St Anthony dePadua Catholic Church; a member of NARFE, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and was a World War II veteran.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Thursday, December 17, in St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church, with entombment to follow in St Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger IN.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8pm on Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish vigil service will be held at 4pm.
