Wesley E. Poindexter

March 29, 1960 - May 12, 1999

Mr. Wesley E. Poindexter, 39, of 2011 W. Kenwood Street, South Bend, Ind., was born to the union of Alonzo Poindexter, Sr., and Katherine (Armstrong) Poindexter on March 29, 1960. He was preceded in death by both parents; and by his oldest brother, Thomas Poindexter. Wesley was a lifelong resident of South Bend, attending the South Bend Street Academy, from which he later received his General Education Diploma. Wesley enjoyed working on various construction jobs. If there was an odd job that you needed done, Wesley was there to assist you. He was also versatile in many other trades. Those who knew Wesley knew that he kept a smile on his face, enjoyed children, and loved his family dearly.

 

He is survived by four sisters, Delores Chambliss, Lavada Poindexter and Shelia (William) Taylor, all of South Bend, and Barbara (Reed) Lark of Mesa, Ariz.; seven brothers, Jimmie Poindexter, Alonzo (Linda) Poindexter, Jr., Michael Poindexter, Kelvin Poindexter and David Coleman, all of South Bend, Raymond (Charlene) Poindexter of Tennessee and David (Terri) Poindexter of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Pecola Poindexter of Chicago, Ill., widow of Mr. Poindexter's oldest brother, Thomas Poindexter; and by a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, in The New Life Bible Baptist Church, 2301 West Dubail Street, South Bend, with Rev. Charles Harris officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services in the church. The Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
