Bernice A. Polfliet

Bernice A. Polfliet, 76, of East 13th Street, Mishawaka, died at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, after a brief illness. Bernice was born in Mishawaka on Sept. 14, 1920, to Frank and Ina (Bultinck) Maes, Sr., both of whom preceded her in death.

 

On Nov. 17, 1939, Bernice married Julius H. Polfliet. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1976. Surviving Bernice are a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Thompson of Union, Mich.; two grandsons, John E. and Jamie E. Thompson, both of Mishawaka; two sisters, Loretta Chapman and Patricia Carpenter, both of Mishawaka; and two brothers, Frank Maes, Jr., of Fort Worth, Texas, and Robert Maes of Rogersville, Tenn.

 

Bernice had been employed by School City of Mishawaka at LaSalle School in the cafeteria until 1981. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie 2083, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Auxiliary.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
