Lawrence E. Pontius Jr.

WALKERTON - Lawrence E. Pontius Jr., 69, of 908 Georgia St., died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital of Marshall County, Plymouth. Mr. Pontius retired from Delmonte Corp., Plymouth, as a truck driver after 38 years of service. He was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Marshall County.

 

On April 19, 1947, in Plymouth, he married Darlene G. Seiders. She died April 1, 1995. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Creech of Osceola and Diana Relos of Plymouth; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his father, Harold Pontius of Walkerton; three sisters, Dorothy Hayn of Plymouth, Esther Bradley of Mishawaka and Betty Schmeltz of Walkerton; and five brothers, Donald of Odessa, Fla., Robert and Kenneth, both of Walkerton, Richard of Fort Wayne and Jim of Mishawaka. He was a member of American Legion Post 189, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1162, Plymouth, and Moose Lodge 741, Plymouth. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Walkerton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 189. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home and one hour before services on Friday in the church.
