SOUTH BEND - Helen T. Porogi, 93, formerly of Pam Drive,
passed away at 4:00 am Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in the
Sanctuary at St. Joseph. Helen was born on January 15, 1915 in
Ottawa, IL to Janos and Anna (Holdumph) Madar. She
retired from Associates where she worked for 28 years. Helen was
a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for over 50 years and in
Legion of Mary. On August 21, 1937 in South Bend as Helen Madar
she married Alex J. Porogi. He died on January 4, 1978. Mrs.
Porogi was also preceded in death by 3 sisters Catherine, Anna,
and Julia and 4 brothers John, Joseph, Frank, and Steven.
Surviving are a daughter Linda (Eugene) Turczynski of
South Bend; 4 grandchildren Eugene, Alan, Colleen, and Jill; 13
great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; 2
great-great-grandchildren; a step great-great-grandchild and a
sister-in-law Carmela Madar of South Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-8 Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m.
