Mary Rose Portolese

MISHAWAKA - Mary Rose Portolese, 72, of West 12th Street, passed away after a sudden illness at 3:49 a.m. on Monday, April 19, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind.

 

Mrs. Portolese was born on Feb. 5, 1927, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of the late Maurice and Anna (Van Ooteghem) Coppens. She was also preceded in death by twin grandsons, David and Daniel Hartman; three brothers, John, Richard and David Coppens; a sister-in-law, Nancy Coppens; and by a brother-in-law, Joseph Portolese.

 

On July 20, 1946, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as the former Mary Rose Coppens, she married Ross L. Portolese, who survives.

 

She is also survived by their two daughters, Terri Ann (Ed) Hartman of Stevensville, Mich., and Cindi Kay (Patrick) Nash of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Coley and Mandy Nash, Chas and Chris Hartman; four sisters, Marlene (Jim) Gosztola and Margaret (Earl) Bradley, both of Mishawaka, JoAnn (Ron) Stealy of South Bend, Ind., and Judy (John) Long of Greenville, S.C.; seven sisters-in-law, Sharon Coppens, Linda Coppens, Mickie Perkins, Mary Portolese, Cathy Portolese, Elizabeth Portolese and Shirley Portolese; and by two brothers-in-law, Don Portolese and Frank Portolese.

 

She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, the B-K Club, the Daughters of Diloreto Club, the Mishawaka Women's Golf League and the Regal Lanes Thursday Morning Bowling League.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a wake prayer service will be at 7 p.m.
