Angelo Portolesi

GRANGER - Angelo Portolesi passed away at 8:48 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, in Hospice House surrounded by his family. Angelo was born on March 4, 1934, in Plati, Italy, to the late Rachela (Oliva) and Savario Portolesi. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Simper and four siblings, Concetta Rigano, Rosario Portolesi, Maria Barbaro and Rosa Portolesi.

 

Angelo is survived by his wife of 41 years, A. Cristina; two daughters, Dr. Rachelina Portolesi Bartlett and Rosella (Thomas) Postula of Portage, MI.; his son-in-law, Brian Simper; and eight grandchildren, Marina and Antonia Bartlett, Grant and Marissa Simper and Cristina, Angela, Anna Maria and Sienna Postula; as well as 12 nieces and nephews in Italy.

 

Angelo arrived from Italy 50 years ago and was first employed at Gilbert's department store as a tailor. He owned his own business, Angelo's Tailor Shop at 414 L.W.W., Mishawaka, for 32 years, where he worked with his wife. He was a member of the DiLoreto Club, the DeAmici's Club and the BK Club. Angelo enjoyed a good round of poker with his many friends. He was a parishioner of St. Bavo Catholic Church for 32 years and most recently a parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. Angelo was a devoted husband and family man whose grandchildren brought him immense joy. He was a kind and gentle man who was respected by all.

 

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, where visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Father William Schooler will officiate the service with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mishawaka.
