MISHAWAKA - Alice E. Pritts, 96, of Mishawaka, passed away early Saturday morning, November 15, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Alice was born June 3, 1912, in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late George and Nora (Williams) Hornung. She grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1929. On February 12, 1938, she married Charles P. Pritts and the couple made Mishawaka home most of their life. Alice was employed for over 30 years with Western Union, managing their Mishawaka office, and was one of the first women to work for Western Union in the press box at the University of Notre Dame. During her retirement years, she went back to work for Associates in South Bend. Alice's Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and their Rosary Society, and the Daughters of Isabella. Alice belonged to the Woodmen of the World. Over the years, she loved traveling and eating out. Alice was also known for her great pumpkin pie recipe. She loved her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Alice's surviving family includes her three children, Patrick (Sherrie) Pritts of Mishawaka, Philip Pritts of LaGrange and Pamela (Gerald) Hull of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, Teresa (Timothy) Hooley, Cynthia (Jon) Baumgartner and Timothy (Sally) Hull; and five great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and her sister, Eva Krekeler.

 

Friends may spend time with Alice's family on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Contributions in Alice's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
