Evelyn K. Proudfit

Evelyn K. Proudfit, 87, of Summit Ridge Road, Mishawaka, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in her residence. She was born April 10, 1910, in Watton, Ill., to Leslie Kuhn. He died March 13, 1935 and to Leona Harper Kuhn. She died Nov. 6, 1975.

 

As Evelyn K. Kuhn, she married Charles H. Proudfit, M.D., in Mishawaka on June 14, 1935. He died May 18, 1989. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Dr. Charles L. Proudfit of Boulder, Colo. and Dr. Robert L. Proudfit of Osceola and a niece, Charlotte Wilkins of South Bend who was raised in the Proudfit home by Dr. and Mrs. Proudfit. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charles Leslie Proudfit of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kerren Louise Bergman of Boulder, Melissa Ann Manges of Lakeville and Robert Wilkins Proudfit of Osceola. Evelyn is survived by a brother-in-law, Mervin Tyson of Templa Terrace, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Tyson on April 21, 1975 and a brother, Elmer Kuhn on June 21, 1918.

 

Evelyn was a school teacher having taught English for two years at Washington and Clay High Schools where she also coached girls basketball. In 1963, she and her husband served as medical missionaries in the Belgian Congo. Evelyn was a member of Phi Mu Social Sorority at Indiana University, Tri Kappa and a member of First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Missionary Fund or Hospice of St. Joseph County.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka with Rev. Daniel Motto officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in Osceola Cemetery.
