Sister M. Bernardis CSC, 86, of St. Mary’s Convent, died in the convent this morning. She was born Aug. 5, 1885 in Moyne, Ireland, and came to the United States and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, as Mary J. Purcell, on Aug. 26, 1906. She made her profession of vows on Dec. 10, 1908. She taught at St. Joseph Academy from 1907 to 1913. She also taught in New York City, Los Angeles and Ventura, Calif; and in Idaho and Utah. She had resided at the convent since 1959. She is survived by a brother and two sisters, all of Ireland.

 

Friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday in the convent parlors, wher a rosary will berecited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
