Josephine Purkal, 81, formerly of
Hildreth Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 6:20 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 22, in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center. She was born on Jan. 27, 1919, in LaPorte, Ind., and
lived in this area since 1958. Mr. Purkal retired from the former
South Bend Bait and Tackle Company.
On Feb. 15, 1947, in LaPorte, as Josephine Nowicki,
she married Charles Purkal, who preceded her in death on March
26, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Michael) Delahanty
of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a son, Kenneth Purkal of California;
and by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and
6 to 8 p.m. today, March 24, in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824
S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. Services will be held at 11 a.m.
on Saturday, March 25, in the funeral home. Burial will be in
Patton Cemetery, LaPorte. Memorial contributions may be made to
the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association,
Northern Indiana Chapter, 425 North Michigan Street, South Bend,
