Sister Mary Nazarene Quinlan CSC

Sister Mary Nazarene CSC, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, died Sunday afternoon in St. Mary’s Convent, after an extended illness. She was born Jane Agnes Quinlan in Chicago in 1888, the daughter of Daniel Quinlan and Mary Ryan Quinlan. She was educated in Chicago and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1916, making her final vows in 1822. During her community life, Sister Nazarene had assisted in the office at Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend and St. Mary’s Hospital, Cairo, Ill. For many years she was postmistress at the St. Mary’s branch of the Notre Dame Post Office.

 

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Wrenn of Chicago, and three brothers, Thomas R. and Patrick Quinlan of Chicago, and Daniel Quinlan of Gulfport, Miss.

 

A requiem high mass will be offered in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and burila will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Friends may call in the convent parlor.
