David Aaron Rakestraw

David Aaron Rakestraw, 915 Miner St., died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of five weeks.

 

He was born in St. Joseph County on May 27, 1889, and had lived in the county all his life.

 

On June 1, 1920, in South Bend he married Florence Jackson. Mr. Rakestraw was a retired employee of the Sibley Machine and Foundry Corp.

 

Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Roy VanHaverbeke of Mishawaka; two brothers, William of North Liberty and Walter, of Turner, Mich.; and a sister, Mrs. Dora Cox of Turner.

 

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday in the Orvis Funeral Home where services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Kenneth Hemphill, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating.

 

Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.

 

Mr. Rakestraw was a member of the church, a veteran of World War I and a member of Post 50, American Legion, and Barracks 829, World War I Veterans of the United States.

Pallbearers for the services at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Orvis Funeral Home for David A. Rakestraw 915 Miner St., who died Wednesday, will be members of Post 50, American Legion. They are Edmund LaFortune, Leroy Hoover, James Flowers, Orville Wise, Owen Hinkson and Warren Cline.

 

Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
