Jeanette C. Ramey

March 20, 1915 - March 2, 1999

Jeanette C. Ramey, 83, of Victoria Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

Mrs. Ramey was born on March 20, 1915, in Andrews, Ind., to Henry and Myrtle (Fox) Rudig, and had lived in South Bend since 1930, coming from Andrews.

On June 1, 1935, in South Bend, she married Jennings D. Ramey, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Smith; and by two brothers, James and Robert Rudig.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda E. (Robert) Distler of South Bend and Kathleen M. Ramey of Norwich, N.Y.; a son, Neil (Shirley) Ramey of Waterloo, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Neil, Dana and Paul Distler, Daniel and Seth Botkin, Ralph Ramey and Heather Maze; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and by a stepsister, Jean Orr of Menlo Park, Calif.

Mrs. Ramey retired as a teller at Key Bank in 1995 after 23 years service. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church, South Bend, since 1930, was a member of the Hearing and Speech Center Auxiliary, and the Order of Eastern Star of South Bend. She was a volunteer in many activities, and was an avid card player.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the First Christian Church, 1101 E. Jefferson Blvd., with Dr. William Wassner officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and from one hour prior to services on Saturday in the parlor of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
