Edna E. Rawles

Edna Eleanor Rawles, 88, died on Saturday, May 3, in Regency Place, South Bend, Ind.

Edna was born in Delong, Ind., May 19, 1914, to Zina and Martha (Zimmerman) Bunnell, who preceded her in death. On May 19, 1933, Edna married Frank A. Rawles, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by her four daughters, Joann (Robert) Dorsch of South Bend, Shirley (Robert) Allison and Janet (Dr. Larry) Thompson of Mishawaka, Ind., and Donna (Dale) Baker of Plymouth, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Candis McCarthy, Julie (Ken) Selby, Robert (Wendy) Dorsch, Cathy (Dr. Michael) Kelly, Michael Allison, Robert (Barbara) Allison Jr., Dr. Michelle Thompson, David Thompson, Dr. Mark (Megan) Thompson, Misty Craft, Jeremy (Nichol) Pennington and Noelle Baker; and by 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edna was a member of First United Methodist Church, South Bend, Rose Croix Chapter of Eastern Star, and L.L.'s, a card group that met regularly for 50 years.

Edna and her husband Frank managed the restaurant at Four Lakes Country Club in the late 50s. From 1961-1971 they owned and operated Rawles Grocery and Market in Leiters Ford, Ind., where Edna also served as assistant postmaster.

Edna was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose kindness and sweet sense of humor will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

Friends may visit with Edna's family from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 9, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, where the funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of South Bend or to a charity of the donor's choice.
