Carl Robert Ray

Carl R. Ray, 86, of County Line Road, New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 5:26 p.m. Friday, September 10, 1999, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ray was born on August 21, 1913, to George and Mary (Thomsen) Ray in Hudson Lake, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. He had been employed with the former Studebaker Corporation, State and County Highway Department, and then retired from Ray's Sanitation.

 

On June 18, 1935, he was married by Rev. Jakeway, in New Carlisle, IN, to Evelyn Wheatbrook, who preceded him in death on January 8, 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Wickizer of New Carlisle, IN, and Janice M. (Arnold) MacDonald of McAlester, OK; four grandchildren, Linda (Edson) Cates, John C. (Christine) Clark, Scott Clark MacDonald, Lea Anne (Christopher) Neiman; seven great-grandchildren, Lyndie Cates, Heather Clark, Stephanie Wickizer, Christopher Clark, Nicholas Carr, Kari Wickizer, Jacob Carr; and one sister, Alice Buckley of Bushnell, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Ray; one grandson, Karl M. Wickizer (September 1993); and by a sister, Louise Ray.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1999, in the New Carlisle Community Church, with Reverend Michael Donahue officiating. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the church.  Mr. Ray was a life member and elder of the New Carlisle Community Church, a member of the LaPorte Ramblers Motorcycle Club, and belonged to several campers clubs. He had worked in the CCC camps, and had also retired from the New Carlisle Fire Department. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Carlisle Community Church, P.O.
