Dorothy H. Reith (Oct. 16, 1914 - May 3, 2002_

Dorothy Hannah Reith, 87, of River Park, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2002. She was born on October 16, 1914, in Grand Haven, Michigan, to Gertrude and William Diedrich, and lived in South Bend most of her life. She was proud to be a 1932 graduate of Riley High School.

In 1936 she married George Reith, who preceded her in death in 1979. She is survived by four children, Marilyn (John) Marvin of Augusta, GA, Nancy (James) Radics of Mishawaka, Donna Hill of Lakeville, IN, and George (Deann) Reith Jr. of Niles, MI.

She was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Jena, and a brother, William (Jean) Diedrich, both of South Bend. She was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Marian Megyese in 1976, and by two brothers, Willis and James.

In 1977 she retired from A & P Grocery as a meat wrapper.

Dorothy was noble grand of Helena Rebekah Lodge #72 for three years, Indiana district deputy president in 1978, was on the degree team, and also was a mentor. In 1979 she was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry. She was a member of the Phythian Sisters. As a longtime member of River Park United Methodist Church she was very active in the Ruth Circle and Mary Martha Circle. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where the Helena Rebekah Lodge #72 will begin services and Rev. Phil Abram will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy Reith may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or River Park United Methodist Church, 920 South 23rd Street, IN 46615.

Hospice of St. Joseph County offered expertise, care and concern for both Dorothy and her family during this time of need. For this they are truly thankful.
