Brother Francis of Assisi Reynolds CSC

Brother Francis of Assisi CSC, aged 85, Notre Dame University, whose worldly name was John Reynolds, died Wednesday evening at the community house, Notre Dame. He was born in Letran county, Ireland June 24, 1838. Brother Francis came to Notre Dame when the university could boast of but 100 students, having met with Father Sorin in Chicago and accompanied him to the university. He received the habit of the church on March 19, 1958 and made his profession March. 19, 1862.

 

Brother Francis taught in the parochial schools of the country for many years. He traveled very extensively and was well informed on educational subjects and the problems of the day. His keen sense of humor and good nature won him the friendship of countless students and all who knew him. He was the oldest brother at the university.

 

The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 8:30 o’clock in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Rev. Joseph Gallagher CSC will officiate. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery.
