SOUTH BEND - Lurlene Rice, 76, of
Elgin, Ill., formerly of South Bend, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday in
Carrington Care Center, South Elgin, after an illness. Mrs. Rice
was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Cannell City, Ky., and lived in South
Bend most of her life.
On June 15, 1934, in Hazzard, Ky., as
Lurlene Nipper, she married Farmer Rice. He died Jan. 16,
1992. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Maxwell of
Chandler, Ariz., and Annette Rappaport of Valparaiso;
three sons, Clyde of Chicago, Ray of Elgin and Von; 13
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Lee Griggs
of Lexington, Ky.; and a brother, James Nipper of South Bend.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home.
