Sister M. Mercy Riordan CSC, 89, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the convent, after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 1, 1889 in Limerick, Ireland and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Jan. 19, 1910. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1910 and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1922. She was assigned to sewing and housework duties during her community life serving at St. Mary’s Convent from 1911 to 1914. Other assignments were in Washington DC; Baltimore, Md.; Columbus, Ohio; and Salt Lake City. Since 1944 she has worked at the convent here.

 

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call today and Friday at the convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. today.
