Nov. 19, 1905 - July 30, 1999

Mrs. Vera M. Roberts, 93, of South Bend, passed away at Memorial Hospital Friday morning, July 30, 1999. Born November 19, 1905 in Bad Axe, Michigan to John R. and Marian (Black) Pearce.

On July 29, 1933 she married Harold A. Roberts who survives. Also surviving her are her sons, Michael H. (Kathy) Roberts of South Bend, Dr. Steven P. (Carol) Roberts of Birmingham, Al. Four grandchildren Gregory M., Gary T. Roberts of South Bend, Bryce T. and Keith L. Roberts of Birmingham, Al.; a brother, Archie Pearce of Detroit, MI.; and three nieces, plus great nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary Pearce and Velma Snoddon, and brothers James and Edgar Pearce.

Before moving to South Bend Mrs. Roberts taught elementary education for 8 years in Detroit, MI. She received her teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University and belonged to Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, and A.A.U.W. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ South Bend and was active in the PTA of South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 2, in the main chapel at Saint Paul's Retirement Center, 3602 S. Ironwood, South Bend. Friends may call one half hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Zion United Church of Christ. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of services.
