Mabel M. Robison

June 18, 1904 - Sept. 10, 2001

Mabel M. Robison, 97, of the Crestwood Assisted Living Unit of Tanglewood Trace in Mishawaka, Ind., died on Monday, Sept. 10, in the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend, Ind.

She was born on June 18, 1904, to Richard P. and Elizabeth C. (Meehling) Bray in Marshall, Ill. On Dec. 25, 1931, she married William Robison in Terre Haute, Ind. Mr. Robison preceded her in death on April 9, 1976. Mrs. Robison was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nellie Merchant; her two brothers, James and Thomas Bray; and by her son-in-law, Thomas Heck.

She had resided in the South Bend area for 72 years, and had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for 46 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Joann M. Heck of Granger, Ind.; three sons, Richard N. Robison of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Robert W. (Barbara) Robison of South Bend and Kenneth A. (Alice) Robison of Rosco, Ill.; and by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Robison, along with her husband and other concerned parents, was active in the support of Catholic secondary education, and their efforts resulted in the creation of St. Joseph's High School in South Bend, and for many years she was active in various parish organizations. In 1951 she and her husband founded American Tool & Die, Inc., which prospered under their management for 17 years. She also was an avid bridge player, loved to travel, and enjoyed occasional trips to the gambling boats. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 12, in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2114 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
