Carmel Luther Roemer

Mrs. Carmel Luther Roemer, 75, formerly of 422 E. Angela, died at 8:05 a.m. today in the Cardinal Nursing Home after a one year illness.

 

Born on May 7, 1904 in South Bend, she had lived here all her life. She was a teacher at St. Joseph’s Grade School in South Bend from 1957 to 1970.

 

Her husband, William F. Roemer Sr., a formers philosophy professor at the University of Notre Dame, died in 1971.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Roemer Kusbach of South Bend; five sons, William of Tucson, Ariz., Joseph of San Jose, Calif., and Thomas, James and Charles, all of South Bend; 27 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Cecile Marie, CSC of St. Mary’s College, and Sister Anne Cecile, CSC, of Flint, Mich., and a brother, James Luther of Denver, Colo.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Donald McNeill CSC of Notre Dame will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Groove Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the McGann Funeral Home, where family will lead the recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m., She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church and the Altar Society, a charter member of the Ladies of Notre Dame and a 1927 graduate of Saint Mary’s College.
